TechCrunch has a sneak preview of some Android apps coming out of MIT. Social networking seems to be a hot concept, although I don’t care much about it. Geolocation seems to be the other hot concept, and I do care about it. Quite a lot.
In fact, I have been looking for something like GeoLife for a while now, although what I wanted was generic location-based notes, not just to-do items. It’s a very real problem for someone with such a volatile memory like mine. I go to a restaurant, really like (or dislike) a particular dish. Then two months later I go to the same place and I try really hard to remember what was it that I had ordered.. but alas I can’t. My phone is with me all the time, my phone knows exactly where I am, and the precision is only going to get better with GPS and all.. Having a simple app that pops up my notes the next time I am in or around that location. Priceless!
Locale looks interesting as well.. Every time I get to work, I have to remember to put my phone into silent mode, and then I have to remember to turn it back to normal when I leave. Having the phone do all of that automagically, that would be so awesome!
Of course, all of this is still just vapourware until the Android phones actually do come out. Now if only someone wrote it for Symbian, or even Windows Mobile..
