No Schumacher in 2008?

December 30, 2007 · 1 Comment

Time is running out real fast for Ralf Schumacher and it seems increasingly likely that he won’t get a drive in the next season. I’m not too surprised, though, because I think pretty much the only thing keeping him on the grid was his last name and a very well negotiated contract!

Of course, we’ll find out for sure over the next month or so as all the teams confirm their drivers, but if it does happen, it would mean there won’t be a Schumacher on grid for the first time in nearly 18 years!!

Another weird Zune ad

December 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Microsoft continues its series of rather strange and unconventional ads for Zune with a new one seemingly inspired by 300 and set to the song “young men dead” by Black Angels.

Found here. The official version, along with other equally “cool” videos, is on the Zune Arts website.

Is Javascript really that hard?

December 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I was surfing through the Zune forums to find some opinions about one of the Altec Lansing docks, when I noticed this hilarious bug.. One of the posts I tried was this. Nothing extraordinary there, but click on page 2 and watch the title bar.

Hmmm.. what’s going on there??? So many triple 7s, must be my lucky day! Or maybe it’s because there are 8 posts on the page. I thought I’ll try another page to test that theory. And sure enough..

To paraphrase an old saying.. Javascript can be a useful servant, a fearsome master!

Bidi Jalayle!

Amazing video.. Of course, as one of my friends pointed out, “jigar” is actually the liver, but that’s just a minor technicality!

Translation on the fly

December 21, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Google got a lot of buzz ealier this week about their translation bots that can do realtime translation in Google Talk.. Quite impressive, I’d say! Except that nearly everyone I interact with knows English (whether it’s the British, American or Indian flavour, or even Australian once in a while). That and the fact that I don’t use Google Talk..

In any case, as I was skimming through some older posts in my NewsGator, I found this post about a new feature in the Windows Live Toolbar that can do instant translation of text on the website you are currently visiting. While the technology doesn’t seem anything extraordinary - it’s about the same as copying the text and pasting to Windows Live Translator or any other translator of you choice - but putting it in the toolbar definitely makes it more accessible! Whether this is enough to convince me to start using toolbars.. that’s an entirely different issue!

It’s snowing in Seattle!!

December 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

What a start to December! It’s been snowing for a couple of hours now, and as the temperatures drop it’s finally beginning to stick on the roads. Some brave folks are still driving out there.. I’ll see if I can get any decent pics.

Update: Not my pics, but some really nice ones anyway.
