Ready.. Steady.. Smile!

August 22, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Apparently new Olympus cameras are going to have an interesting new Smile Recognition feature. While I’m going to stick with my old Canon for now, it’s really nice to see this kind of innovation.. I guess the next logical step would be closed eye detection! That will salvage so many spoiled photos..

Maybe one day the cameras will be able to automatically find the right composition and shoot away. Surely anything will be better than the pictures I take!

Times of India article

When the duo [Wing Cdr Rahul Monga and co-pilot Wing Cdr Anil Kumar] land at the Hindan Air base on Sunday, they would have created a new world record in circumnavigating the world in a single engine microlite aircraft in 79 days. The current world record is 99 days.

Sania Mirza beats Hingis, moves into top 30!

August 13, 2007 · 1 Comment

This is just amazing! In the last year or so, people were beginning to wonder if Mirza was ever going to repeat the successes she had a couple of years when she beat several high ranking players and won her first (and, so far, only) WTA Singles title. Clearly she has a lot more left in her!

Last week, she beat former No. 1 Hingis 6-2 2-6 6-4 in LA, her 5th top 20 win in last 3 weeks or so.

”You’re playing Hingis you can’t expect to roll through the third set,” said Mirza, now 2-2 against the Swiss star. “I believed when I stepped on the court tonight that I could win.”

And despite losing to a lower ranking Virginie Razzano in Quarter Finals, she still managed to improve her singles ranking to career-best 29. In this year’s race, she ranks 26th. With Paes and Bhupathi nearing the end of their careers, it’s all down to her now..

“Today I feel like a more complete player. My forehand, my backhand and even my serve is better. These are the things I’ve been working on the past few years.”

Oh how much I love Technorati charts! Look at this chart for Lewis Hamilton and guess when did the last 7 races happen?

It’s 1989 all over again..

August 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

It’s been almost two decades since F1 saw two teammates fighting for the championship so closely. And just like the Prost and Senna battle, this is not looking pretty!

With 6 races left, a lot can still happen.. That’s what Ferrari must be thinking I’m sure! But it’s anyone’s guess what would happen if it all went down to the last couple of races.

Windows Live SkyDrive

August 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Earlier today a new version of the erstwhile Windows Live Folders was released under a new name, Windows Live SkyDrive.. A rhyming product name! That can’t possibly go wrong!!

More details on the team blog. There is also a video on the Vista blog. I used it briefly and it’s quite neat.. The concept is nothing new of course, the real question is how well will it integrated with Windows and other Windows Live services.

Now I need to find some files to share with the world.. and figure out how to integrate it with WordPress.

Graph Your Website

Graph the website of your choice here. More than anything else, I loved the rendering technique.. the whole “force-directed graph layout” concept, except for the fact that it’s written in Java!

Back in college, a friend and I, well.. mostly he, wrote a Java applet to render organic molecules by entering their formula. Wish we’d known about this then..
