Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it..

Battle Of The Surfaces

May 1, 2007 · 4 Comments

The King of Clay vs. The King of Grass (and pretty much everything else).. The man who has won an unbelievable 72 straight matches on Clay vs. The man who has been untouchable on Grass for over 4 years. But no.. this is no ordinary Nadal vs. Federer match!

Federer and Nadal will go head-to-head in front of a sell-out crowd of nearly 7,000 on a court that is clay at one end and grass at the other.

What an ingenious concept!! It’s happening tomorrow.. wonder if I can find a way of watching it.

Found here. More details here.

PS: The match is going right down to the wire, as anyone would expect! but I found this wonderful programming gem on their website:

Who do you think is going to win?

Can’t create a new thread (errno 12); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug

As Mr. Rosenberg asks (and countless other people before him have).. why can’t we build software like we build bridges?

PPS: Rafa won :(. The score 7-5 4-6 7-6 (12-10) shows there was hardly anything between the guys! However, I’m very disappointed by the official website. This morning while the match was going on, all they had was the set score.. no stats, no interactive stuff, not even the game score. For such a first-time-ever event, they should have put a little more effort into it! Now that the match is over, they just have a huge picture of Nadal, and no mention of the final score! Incredible!!

All those complaints aside, it’ll be really cool to have some stats on how each player performed on each surface.. How many points did Federer win on clay vs. how many Nadal won on grass.. Serve percentages.. Break point conversions.. All those sort of things that will probably be of interest to maybe 5 people in the whole wide world!
