US Broadband is sloooow
May 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment
I knew countries like South Korea and Japan were far ahead of US in terms of broadband adoption and technology, but I had no idea the situation was so bad.. Even Canada is far ahead!
http://pressesc.com/01179677598_us_internet_slow
The average broadband download speed in the US is only 1.9 megabits per second, compared to 61 Mbps in Japan, 45 Mbps in South Korea, 18 Mbps in Sweden, 17 Mpbs in France, and 7 Mbps in Canada
Not only that, US – the birthplace of Internet – is now ranked 16th in the world in terms of broadband adoption.. and on an average, people pay roughly 30 times more for the same bandwidth as the friendly folks in Japan. Wow!!

The King of Clay is finally beaten!
May 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Federer has finally figured out a way to beat Nadal on clay!! After 81 straight victories on clay, the longest on any one surface by any player, Nadal lost 6-2 2-6 0-6 to Federer in the Hamburg final.
This victory gave Federer his 4th Hamburg title in last 5 years, his 1st title in the last 5 tournaments he had played, and improved his head-to-head record against Nadal on clay to an impressive 1-5.
“It’s absolutely a breakthrough. It will be interesting to see how we both react in the French Open,” said Federer.
With French Open only days away, this victory should definitely give Federer a lot of confidence. However, Nadal shouldn’t really be affected too much by this loss. Despite being a Masters Series tournament, Hamburg has little significance compared to the Open. He himself put down the loss to the exhaustion after playing a number of tournaments in the last few months.
Maybe I was not the same like always mentally. I feel a little tired mentally, but physically I was OK
But nevertheless.. if I didn’t already have enough reasons to watch French Open, this win has definitely made sure that I do. Go Federer!!

Customer Cars vs. Factory Cars
May 13, 2007 · Leave a Comment
At the head of the grid, Ferrari and McLaren are doing their best to make this the most exciting F1 season in my memory, and BMW are trying desperately to join the party. But further down the order, there is a different kind of battle going on.. between some of the private teams and the factory teams that are supplying engines to those private teams.
This year Ferrari is supplying engines to Spyker and STR, while Renault, Toyota and Honda are powering Red Bull, Williams and Super Aguri, respectively. There is absolutely no contest between Ferrari and their two customers, but in case of the other 3, the private teams are trying as best as they can to show that they can get the engine perform better in their car than in the factory car.. And Williams and now Super Aguri have even had some success on that front.
Massa conquers Spain but Hamilton is the real star

It was a long wait after the last race, but it was surely worth it! Constant drama right from the start to end (okay maybe until the second round of pitstops after which I kind of dozed off..)
Massa drove really well to take his 2nd victory of the year.. He still has problems getting off the grid but seeing as how he’s getting into a habit of being on pole, those problems should go away soon. Every single race of the year has had a dramatic 1st corner and this was no different.. I think Alonso was not that much ahead of Massa to try and close the corner as he did. It seems everyone agrees it was just a racing incident, so that’s good.

Remembering Gilles Villeneuve
May 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment
On this day in 1982, Gilles Villeneuve met his tragic death during the qualifying at the Belgian GP at Zolder. 25 years later, his legacy lives on..
His duel with René Arnoux in the 1979 French GP is considered one of the greatest battles in F1. And it’s not hard to see why.
